The National Botanic Garden of Wales is located near Llanarthne, less than half an hour away.  With its breathtakingly unique Great Glasshouse, walled gardens, lakes and water sculptures, it's a must-do whole day excursion for even the non-gardener.  Also, don't miss the star of BBC TV's "A Garden Lost In Time", Aberglasney Gardens, near Llangathen. Dating back to 1257, it is one of the finest historical gardens in Wales.

Pembrey Country Park covers some 520 hectares of green land and forestry, fifteen minute's drive from Penyfedw.  The park is in a coastal setting and its famous golden stretch of Cefn Sidan beach provides spectacular views of the Gower Peninsula.  You can also enjoy a game of golf, a pony trek, cycle as far as The Millennium Coastal Park, try a toboggan run or even dry-slope skiing!

Kidwelly Castle is an outstanding example of late 13th century castle design. One of the most intact castles in South Wales, it's only three miles away from Penyfedw.  And for another taste of local history, you can also visit the Kidwelly Industrial Museum.

The Bishops Palace, or County Museum, is located in Abergwili, just across the beautiful River Towy, surrounded by woodland walks.  Five minutes from Abergwili, you'll find Merlin's Hill Visitor Centre, and a little further away the delightfully restored Gwili Steam Railway.

Located on the picturesque Burry Inlet, The National Wetland Centre at Penclacwydd is at the cutting edge of wetland conservation in Wales. Lots to do for everyone, including the children, and but twelve miles' easy driving from Penyfedw.  Penclacwydd is a short distance from Lanelli's bustling town centre.

Dylan Thomas's Boathouse at Laugharne is also a short drive away.  "Under Milk Wood" is said to have been based on life in Laugharne - nowadays you can enjoy its numerous art galleries and tea rooms, and visit the churchyard where Thomas himself is buried.
